About Dr. Martinez

New York State Licensed Psychologist

I’m Dr. Chris W. Martinez, a licensed psychologist with over two decades of unique professional and educational experiences dedicated to serving children, adolescents and their families.

I specialize in clinical assessment, behavior therapy with individuals and families as well as parent training. I have a proven track record in working with youth with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders), Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Disruptive, Impulse-Control Disorders (e.g. Oppositional Defiant Disorder). My expertise includes psychological assessments, behavioral modifications, coping skills and social skills training, emotion regulation, crisis intervention and de-escalation.

I’m passionate about improving the lives of individuals through evidence-based practices and empowering clients to reach their full potential. My work has successfully helped clients transition back into less restrictive, general education settings, and reduce aggressive and oppositional behaviors while also increasing self-esteem and academic achievement.

Throughout my tenure as a Graduate and Doctoral student and as a licensed Psychologist, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings. I’ve provided Parent Management Training to families, play therapy to children who’ve experienced trauma, and support to at-risk pregnant teens.  I have also facilitated workshops for Day Treatment School staff on topics such as Child Abuse and Maltreatment Prevention, and Suicide Prevention/Intervention.

As a Licensed Psychologist in New York, I’m committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. My mission is to empower my clients to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve their goals while advocating for mental health awareness and reducing stigma.

I believe in a positive and holistic approach to therapy. I think it’s important to find balance in your life and it starts with improving self-esteem and good self-care. I like a person-centered approach, meaning you’re in charge, I’m here to listen and to support you. We go at your pace, and things should always be comfortable for you during therapy.
